Tropical Storm Hanna dumped 3.90 inches of rain in Kinnelon. The rain in combination with winds caused power outages. Winds never reached tropical storm strength with gusts peaking at 25-30 mph.
Tropical Storm Watch for our area- The National Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch for our area. We can expect strong winds accompanied by heavy rains. The rains along with the wind may down trees and disrupt power. Residents should prepare for the event staying indoors with adequate supplies. (09-06-2008)

Heat wave spawns severe thunderstorms in our area.
New York Sports Club planned in Kinnelon- The former Butler Bowl located in Kinnelon off of Route 23 may be the new location for the New York Sports Club. Currently the project is planned for completion by November of this year.
Tragedy strikes family in Kinnelon. The Jafar family who lost their daughter and a cousin to a drunk driver in Kinnelon now confront the lost of their son in a fatal accident in Jefferson.
Local musician Michael Pearsall and his band Honor by August will perform in Rockaway, NJ on Februrary 28. Check out the band that opened for a sold-out Bon Jovi concert.
Ice and snow brought dangerous driving conditions as well as road closures due to down trees and wires. Kinnelon received a total of 3 1/2 inches of snow which was then coated by sleet freezing rain and then rain. Areas of flooding were also observed. Rain should end sometime Wednesday night with a slight chance of snow and colder temperatures creating possible black ice conditions.

Bridge repairs taking longer than expected. Project was originally expected to be completed in four months by December of 2007. It appears the project has a long way to go.

Morris County Park Commission will conduct a controlled white tail deer management program on January 9,16,23,30 and February 6, 2007. The park will be closed to the public on weekdays during the morning hours. Hunters pre-registered with the Morris County Park Police, will hunt the deer. These efforts will help reduce the deer population to the recommended level for re-establishing the native flora and bio diversity of the park.
On Sept. 26, the Kinnelon Board of Education will re-introduce referendum. The referendum will assist the district to accommodate the growing student population at the high school. The referendum will include six new classrooms, four group instruction rooms, a special education room, art room, two science labs and a music room and associated rest and storage rooms.

Honor by August a Michael Perasall band along with Ants Marching will be performing "Kinnelon Cares- A rockin community concert for cancer awareness. Check the road conditions while at work or away. As Kinnelonians know it can rain in the city while it snows here in Kinnelon. Two cams have been set up in Kinnelon. One displays road conditions in Fayson Lakes and the other has a partial view of Pyramid Mountain. Both cams display streaming images and may require the latest Java download.
Jan. 3, 2006- Four inches of snow fell in Kinnelon at the 900 foot level, leaving roads treacherous. Storm totals were significantly different in areas to the east and at lower elevations. Areas just a few miles to the east of Kinnelon, Wayne and Paterson, received little or no accumulation. Even areas in Kinnelon had significant accumulation differences due to elevation. However High Point State Park in northwest New Jersey received over 8 1/2 inches of snow.
A fast moving system from the Ohio valley transferring its energy to the Carolina coast then moving northeastward, dumped 9 inches of snow in a 6 hour period in our area Friday morning. Check out past snow totals!
Katrina Fund Raising planned in Kinnelon- A special fund raising event will take place on Sept. 24 at Kinnelon High School. There will be activities such as a walkathon, a bike rally and entertainment including live music and food. A truck will be located at the school where residents can bring items such as non-perishables goods between noon and 5pm.
Residents plan candle light vigil at Kinnelon Borough Hall this Wednesday, August 17 at 7:30pm in response to mother's pleas in Texas to meet President Bush.
The Kinnelon BOE proposed a $12 million dollar referendum to expand Kinnelon High School. The referendum may go before the voters in December. The expansion is in light of increased student population. In addition a 2nd referendum will include to funding of the Field of Dreams which would improve the athletic facilities at the high school.
1560 voters responded to the proposed school budget. The vote tally of 812 Yes votes over 748 No votes indicated a very close decision.
In addition incumbent Allen Kirk (965 votes) was unopposed and retained his seat and new comer William Hickey (920 votes) will join the Board of Education in place of Diane Mcintee who did not seek re-election.

Tri-Boro requests aid from Council- The Tri-Boro first aid squad which serves Kinnelon, is asking for funding to support an incentive program. The support could strengthen the volunteer organization. The Kinnelon Council is considering an allocation in the budget for the program
Cell tower looms over Butler Reservoir Towns fight hard to minimize the impact that cell towers have over their communities. This one which overlooks the Butler Reservoir from Fayson Lakes Road dominates the landscape.
Kinnelon's newest addition to the DPW-Required by the State construction moves forward in the building of a road salt bin and storage facility in Kinnelon. The County will share the expense since they will use some of the storage space for road salt.
The one-hour program is designed to empower and assist parents in building better communications with their kids. The program is being hosted by the Kinnelon-Butler Optimist Club in conjunction with KAMELOT, (Kinnelon’s Municipal Alliance).
The “15-Minute Child Break” presentation will be held at the Pearl R. Miller School cafeteria 117 Kiel Avenue, Kinnelon, NJ on November 11, 2004 at 7:30 pm. A brief question and answer period will follow. Local resource materials and information will be provided.
The “15-Minute Child Break” was developed based on research from PDFNJ’s 2000 Middle School Study on Substance Use, which found that kid’s who have consistent communication with a parent or caregiver everyday are 67% less likely to engage in substance abuse.
The program’s popularity has been expressed throughout New Jersey by companies who have hosted the program for their employee, and by PTA’s and parenting groups in every county in New Jersey. The “15-Minute Child Break” encourages audience participation and also features a screening of national award winning service announcements.
Countywide Prevention Forum
On November 10 from 5:30 to 9:00pm the Kinnelon Municipal Alliance (KAMELOT) invite Kinnelon resident to attend the second annual Countywide Prevention Forum, "Building Community Assets: Keeping Our Children Safe". This event will be held at headquarters at the Plaza Hotel in Morristown. The purpose of this forum is to provide an opportunity for parents, educators and community leaders to come together in an effort to understand bullying, violence and substance abuse. Pompton Lakes Marching Band Competition

Band Concert in Butler- The Bloomingdale Cornet Band will present free, outdoor concerts in Borough Park, downtown Butler. Marches, Broadway & patriotic songs are the standard repertoire. The concerts begin at 8:00 pm. Bring a lawn chair. In case of rain, that concert will take place the following thursday. The dates are Thursday, July 8 and Thursday, July 22.

On June 4 the Kinnelon Police Department will challenge Kinnelon Youth in a charitable basketball game to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity will assist in the building of a home for a single mom and her daughters in Butler.

The Bloomingdale Cornet Band is playing a Spring Concert at the

Police to participate in free gun lock program On
Jan. 27, the Kinnelon Police Department will be giving
away free gunlocks to residents. The giveaway will
follow a seminar and a power point presentation at
borough hall at 7pm.
Mayor
and Council look for a speed reduction on Kinnelon
Road After
bidding out Kinnelon Road for bicycle safety construction,
the Mayor and Council are looking to lower the speed
limit on Kinnelon Rd. to enhance the safety of bicyclists.
Lighting will be increased on the stretch of roadway
as well as special sewer grates.
Kinnelon
acquires 34 acre "Pyramid Mountain Extension" On Jan. 15, the town officially closed on
the Pyramid Mt. Ext. The area in question was instrumental
to the drinking water of the Butler Reservoir. The
price of 1.3 million dollars will be offset by grants
from the Morris County Open Space and Farmland Trust
Grant Fund.
Over
13 inches of snow fell in the hills of Kinnelon. A
strong Nor-Easter brought a substantial blanket of
snow slowing Friday's commute. Over 5 1/2 inches fell
on Friday with an additional 7+ inches occurring on
Saturday. Our Department of Public Works did a fine
job clearing roadways keeping roads passable. Snow
showers and flurries will continue into early Sunday
morning.
Kamelot
receives a donation from the Smoke Rise Womens Club
A
donation was received by Kamelot
on Wednesday afternoon by the Smoke Rise Womens Club.
Co-Chair Priscilla Adams received the funds at their
holiday tea function in Smoke Rise. The donation will
enable KAMELOT to continue
to fund educational programs programs relating to
the prevention of alcohol and substance abuse.
Santa
to visit Kinnelon
On Sunday Dec. 7th from 12 noon to 3:00pm Santa will
be visiting Weichert Realtors located at 174 Boonton
Ave. All are invited and parents will be given a free

Services
for Allen R. Maher, 76, of Riverdale, will be at 10
a.m. tomorrow in the Morrison Funeral Home, 86 Bartholdi
Ave., Butler. Mr.
Maher, who died Thursday in Morristown Memorial Hospital,
was the chief of police in Kinnelon for 23 years before
retiring in 1988.

Kinnelon Library receives over $600,000 from State
to assist with renovation costs. Total cost for
the project was 2.2 million dollars. Officials
were seeking more.
Congratulations
to the KHS Mock Trail Team They defeated defending Morris County Champion
Hanover Park HS Monday night at the Morris
County Court House. They
now move on to regional competition next week.
The
Fayson Lakes
Water Company is having a meeting on Tuesday February
25th 7:30pm in the library. They are going to detail
the upgrades to their system that will occur to hopefully
end water restrictions. They are also going to discuss
financing of $2,000,000 of improvements and
repayment of the debt.
