Kinnelon Resident Protest War in Iraq

On Monday, Dec. 5, Kinnelon resident Bob Blumenthal, stood in silent protest of the Iraq war on the corner of Route 23 and Kinnelon Road.

According to Bob, “Rep. Murtha recently announced that 80% of the Iraqi people want us to leave. While this figure may not be exact, even 60% is astounding. Giving one's life is the ultimate sacrifice. If the Iraqis don't want us there, then there is no justification for putting our troops in harm's way. In addition, we are getting little cooperation from Iraqi civilians when it comes to locating the "bad guys." As Howard Zinn recently stated - when a person makes a mistake and redoubles his efforts to compound the error, you have a definition of a fanatic. It is this presidential policy which compels me to take my ideas to the streets. Perhaps other like minded individuals who wish to end this madness, will do likewise and make their voices known. A loud, public grass roots effort cannot and will not be ignored by candidates who wish to remain in office”.

11/2 hours and about 5,000 vehicles (by his approximation) later, Bob said he intends to be there every Monday morning at 7:30 until, I suppose, “this madness” ends
