10.6 Million Dollar Expansion and Preservation |
||
A 10.6 million dollar purchase for 1,252 acres of land was made by a joint venture with the Green Acres program, along with the Morris Land Conservancy, New Jersey Conservation Foundation, Morris County Park Commission and Kinnelon. The purchase will extend Silas Condict Park to Rt. 23 back into Denvile to Tourne County Park. In addition the land purchase may also provide space for the expansion of Kinnelon's municipal complex. The pending agreement for purchased was made with developer Dennis Lam of Fort Lee. Lam and his family based Hong Kong partnership had purchased the land back in 1981. During that time the corporation had sold lots for 100 homes. The original price for the purchase was 5 million dollars. Lam was prompted to the decision to sell because of restrictions the Highland Act, which makes it more difficult to develop land. The land will extend trails, preserve water ways and habitats for endangered species. |
